FAQs
A question we often get is why should I supplement with protein? Time for Innermost to break it down for you.
What is protein and what does it do?
Protein is an important nutrient made up of amino acids, which are the building blocks of skin, hair, nails, muscle and tendons. Protein also ensures your immune system is functioning properly and has been shown to keep you feeling fuller for longer keeping hunger pangs at bay better than carbohydrates or fats.
Why should you supplement with protein?
Protein is especially important for those who exercise. You know the feeling of sore muscles the day after a workout? That’s a result of microtears in your muscle fibres that need to be repaired and amino acids are a critical component of that repair process. The good news is that as those muscle tears are repaired, you grow stronger and fitter. And it's not just your muscles that need protein. Your body uses protein to repair all body tissue, which includes hair, skin, nails and tendons. You can of course get your protein from food but it takes more time for your body to break it down and often it can also contain saturated fat, cholesterol and other things you don’t need.
Why Innermost?
Our tailored range of superfood protein blends are a convenient and highly bioavailable source of protein. They’re all packed with the right essential amino acids including high levels of leucine, which is the amino acid that is the most important in the rebuilding process. More than just a great source of protein, each of our unique blends contain a bespoke mix of the most effective natural ingredients to help you achieve different goals across four categories – strong, fit, health and lean. And because each blend is created from the ground up, they each contain the precise balanced combination of ingredients you need with no artificial flavours, colours, GMOs or mystery ingredients. Go ahead and take a closer look - we want you to!
Given that protein helps repair and build muscle, the general consensus is to take your protein in a highly bioavailable form immediately after your workout (within 30 minutes). Your body will be hungry for nutrients so getting something highly bioavailable into your body at this time is optimal.
Mixing your protein powder with water will help your body absorb the nutrients most quickly but you can use whichever liquid you like best to mix your powder with.
In addition, lots of people also have a protein shake when they wake up, as a healthy option during their day to keep them feeling fuller for longer or before they go to bed. There really is no hard and fast rule so go with what works best for you.
Protein can benefit anyone - whether you go to the gym every day, occasionally or even if you don't workout at all. For those who workout, protein can help your muscles repair and recover to maximise the benefits of your workout.
But given protein is the key building block of skin, hair, nails, teeth, tendons and pretty much every cell in your body, getting enough protein into your diet helps ensure you continue to look and feel your best.
Also, vegetarians and vegans may find it difficult to get enough protein into their diets from food so a good quality supplement would help. Lucky for you we have four of the very best, aligned to different goals each packed with functional superfoods.
We have a free health consultation here which can help you work it out! It will take less than 5 minutes, and offers tailored product recommendations based on your goals.
Typically most people consume a protein shake post-workout but you can definitely have more than one shake a day. For instance, in the morning before your workout or as a healthy nutritious afternoon snack to keep you going before your next meal.
Our protein blends are packed with functional superfoods so it's not just about the benefits of the protein that you're getting. Depending on the Innermost blend you choose, you could replenish your body with important nutrients lost during your day, reduce inflammation, provide energy for your workout, strengthen your immune system or help encourage fat-loss.
While we have some recommended serving sizes, you can adjust the quantity to suit your preferred taste or personal preference.
No, you don’t have to mix it with water. There are a number of options you have including milk, almond milk, coconut milk, hazelnut milk, as an ingredient in smoothies. You actually don’t even have to use liquid at all and can use the superfood protein blends in healthy cookies, brownies and all sorts of wonderful things.

We always recommend that you consult with your doctor before consuming any ingredients you're not sure about. They'll have a better understanding of your personal circumstances!
The answer to this question is a resounding yes! Typically people will use our superfood protein blends with water or milk post-workout. However, they can also be used to make smoothies, cookies, brownies, cakes and all manner of delicious dishes that would then benefit from the nutrients found in our different blends.

There are a number of different popular forms of protein including whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, casein, pea protein and brown rice protein. Whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate are absorbed the most quickly. Mixing them with water helps the digestion process allowing your body to break down the protein into amino acids and deliver them to your body in under 45 minutes. That's why most people tend to consume their protein shakes with water immediately after their workout - to replenish nutrients and glycogen stores, and get amino acids to their muscles when they are most readily absorbed. There may be times when you might want a more steady supply of amino acids. For example when you haven't worked out or overnight while you're sleeping. You can do this by mixing your protein with milk or incorporating casein into your shake. This allows for a more gradual release of amino acids into your body.
We use different protein sources in our superfood protein blends to take into account different goals. The Strong Protein contains whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate and casein. This mixture allows for a more gradual supply of amino acids to your muscles to maximise the absorption. The Fit Protein and The Lean Protein contain a balanced combination of whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate. The Health Protein contains pea protein and brown rice protein, which are both vegan sources of protein.
Not all sources of protein are created equal. In fact, the quality of a protein powder is determined by its amino acid profile, which represents the individual building blocks of protein.
There are nine amino acids that are considered to be essential amino acids (EAAs). Your body doesn’t produce these naturally and must get them from your diet. Three of those nine EAAs are regarded as the most important and are called branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). These are leucine, isoleucine and valine.
It’s established that BCAAs, and in particular leucine, stimulate protein synthesis, and might do so to a greater extent than a normal protein on its own. Research suggests at least 2g of leucine per serving is the minimum your body needs to kickstart protein absorption. The other two amino acids, valine and isoleucine, are considered glucogenic, meaning they can be converted to glucose and used as an energy source during exercise.
Without further ado, please find below the amino acid breakdown of each of our superfood protein blends paying special attention to our leucine levels.
The Strong Protein, The Fit Protein and The Lean Protein (per 40g serving): EAAs = 14g, BCAAs = 7g, Leucine = 3g
The Health Protein (per 40g serving): EAAs = 12g, BCAAs = 6g, Leucine = 3g.
Numbers provided for the vanilla version of each blend.
Plant based? We've got you covered.
With the exception of The Strong Protein, The Lean Protein, The Fit Protein and The Glow Booster, every single one of our products are vegan.
The reason that The Strong Protein, The Lean Protein and The Fit Protein are not vegan is due to the fact that they contain whey protein, which is made from the milk of our grass-fed cows all of which are kept in open fields and free to roam - something we felt was incredibly important. The Glow Booster contains bovine sourced collagen.
You can certainly get protein from food, such as a steak for example. However, you will also have to deal with the cholesterol, fat and other things you don't need. Our Innermost superfood protein blends are all low in fat and contain protein in a highly bioavailable form. Great if you've just had a workout and want to get nutrients into your body when it's looking to replace what has been lost during your workout and so it can start the rebuilding process.
We'd recommend using Innermost protein blends to supplement your diet and ensure your body is getting nutrients in when it either needs them most or when you don't have the time to prepare yourself a high protein meal.
Given you're training several times a week plus you're probably racing too, getting your body rebalanced after a session is important as well as getting good nutrients into it. The rebalancing part is important because if your body is dehydrated, it’s harder for it to absorb the nutrients you're putting in.
For that reason, as far as a protein blend goes, we'd recommend The Fit Protein. This blend was developed to maximise performance, rehydrate, increase energy and support lean muscle development. It contains: Whey Protein (Concentrate + Isolate) is the building block of muscle, bone, skin, hair and nails, to help with lean muscle gain and fat loss. Cocomineral to replenish electrolytes, rehydrate, and assist with normal function of nervous system, muscles and blood pressure. Maca used in ancient times by the Incas for increased vigour and energy. Magnesium for energy balance and muscle contraction. Rhodiola Root to reduce effects of fatigue following exercise, increase serotonin levels and improve cognitive function. Pink Himalayan Sea Salt contains 84 trace minerals/elements to help rehydrate the body.
We might also recommend The Energy Booster before or during your training sessions. You’d mix 10g of it with up to 400ml of water. It’s tastes almost like flavoured water. It’s our pre/intra-workout supplement to improve energy, vitality and alertness while reducing fatigue. It contains: BCAA Complex represent the 3 key essential amino acids (Leucine, Valine and Isoleucine) in an optimal 2:1:1 ratio to aid muscle growth and recovery. Citrulline Malate used to improve aerobic energy production. Maca used for well-being, vigour, libido and endurance. Beta Alanine used for performance and reducing effects of fatigue. Guarana used by people of the Amazon as an elixir of long life, and to improve alertness, mood and performance. Caffeine used for alertness, endurance and fat oxidation. Vitamin B Complex: All the B vitamins - to reduce tiredness and fatigue.
The Fit Protein and The Energy Booster both come in The Performance Collection, which gives you a decent saving along with a free Innermost shaker bottle. Check it out here and good luck out on the track.
You can absolutely substitute an Innermost protein blend for breakfast especially if you're looking to reduce your calorie intake or you're in a rush and don't have time to grab a healthy breakfast. You'll benefit from a nutritious shake that's high in protein and antioxidiants, and low in fat, sugar and carbohydrate.
The only decision you'd need to make is which superfood protein blend suits your goals, which flavour to take and which liquid to mix it with. Your options include water, milk, almond milk, coconut water and anything else that you like the sound of!
Amino acids are the individual building blocks of protein and there are nine that are considered to be "essential". Your body doesn't produce these naturally and must get them from your diet. Three of those nine essential amino acids are regarded as the most important - leucine, isoleucine and valine. Collectively they are known as Branch Chain Amino Acids or BCAAs.
BCAAs are especially helpful for maintaining muscle while on a calorie-deficit diet - useful if you're looking to lose fat without losing muscle. Supplementing with BCAAs has been shown to help promote muscle mass, recovery and support the immune system.
It's established that BCAAs, and in particular leucine, stimulate protein synthesis, and might do so to a greater extent than a normal protein on its own. The other two amino acids, valine and isoleucine, are considered glucogenic, meaning they can be converted to glucose and used as an energy source during exercise.
The BCAAs that you typically find in your protein shake are peptide-bound to other amino acids and must be digested before being absorbed. However, BCAAs in raw supplement form are free-form, require no digestion, and are rapidly absorbed, thereby having a more immediate impact.
The Energy Booster - our pre/intra-workout powder contains BCAAs in an optimal 2:1:1 ratio of leucine, isoleucine and valine along with a range of other amazing ingredients.
We have four protein blends - protein powders thoughtfully crafted with functional superfoods, sirtfoods, antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. Each come in two flavours - vanilla and chocolate. We only use natural flavours so that would be vanilla bean and cocoa in these particular cases. And we get rave reviews on the flavours, so do take a look for yourself.
Protein supplements come in several different forms and it's worth knowing the differences. We've broken down the main types along with benefits and things to watch out for. We've also classified them into the good, the bad and the ugly.
The Good
Whey: Derived from milk, this type of protein has a complete amino acid profile, high levels of leucine (the most important amino acid that kickstarts the absorbtion process), is fast acting and easily absorbed. Whey protein also contains high levels of vitamins and minerals. Whey commonly comes in two forms - whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate. This protein is found in The Strong Protein, The Fit Protein and The Lean Protein.
Casein: Made from the curds in milk, casein is a protein that takes longer to absorb. Combining casein with whey protein, as we do in The Strong Protein, ensures your muscles are continually fed over an extended period of time maximising the amount your muscles can absorb. Great if you're looking to build muscle.
Pea and Rice: Both are hypoallergenic, vegan, low fat, low calories and while individually they don't contain all the essential amino acids we need, when they are combined, as we do in The Health Protein, they work very well together and make the perfect vegan alternative to whey protein.
The Bad
Hemp: Not considered a complete protein due to low levels of lysine and also relatively low levels in leucine, which is the most important amino acid. Hemp protein is also known to contain very low amounts of essential vitamins and minerals. Instead, it contains high levels of fat and carbohydrates, which slows down the process of nutrient absorption.
The Ugly
Soy: There are concerns based on the fact that soy protein is a source of isoflavones, which are compounds known to have estrogen-like effects in the body. They are also implicated as the main culprits in soy protein's testosterone-lowering claims. This is the reason all Innermost superfood protein blends and nutritional boosters are soy-free. For all the men out there, it's worth considering a different source of protein.
None of our products are designed to be used as meal replacements. Innermost products are designed to support a healthy, balanced diet, alongside your regular meals. You can of course add the products into your existing meals - for example in a breakfast shake!
The Strong Protein is one of our whey superfood protein blends. It was formulated for those aiming to get stronger and firmer by building lean muscle. The Strong Protein can be added to water/milk to create a shake or even added with fruit to your favourite smoothie. It’s best enjoyed as a nutritious drink, as a post-workout shake to replenish your energy levels or even as a pre-workout booster.
One of the main ingredients in The Strong Protein is Whey Protein. Proteins are made from a collection of up to 22 amino acids. There are 9 of these that cannot be made by the body. These are called essential amino acids (EAAs) and have to be taken in through our diets. 3 of these EAAs include the Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) called leucine, isoleucine and valine, which are the most important amino acids. However, not all whey is created equal!
Our whey protein is sourced from grass-fed cows, and is a mixture of whey protein concentrate (high in vitamins and minerals) and whey protein isolate (low in lactose and fat). It provides all the EAAs and BCAAs you need including, most importantly, leucine, which is the key amino acid recognised as being responsible for activating protein synthesis and building muscle.

The Tone Capsules were developed to support healthy weight loss whilst optimising functioning of your skin, hair, nails and teeth. Simply take two capsules in the morning and two capsules in the afternoon with water.
The Tone Capsules contains a collection of ingredients fashioned to support healthy weight loss goals. It has matcha green tea and capsicums to boost your metabolism and encourage weight loss, yerba mate to suppress your appetite and fat absorption, caffeine for improved performance and fat oxidation as well as L-Theanine which reduces the stress hormone cortisol which can lead to weight gain. It also contains vitamin C, which aids the absorption of the green tea compounds, vitamin B6 for mood and regulation of hormone activity as well as vitamin B12 for improved energy levels.
All in all The Tone Capsules are a bespoke blend of nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to enhance well being whilst aiding weight loss.
The Lean Protein is one of our whey superfood protein blends. It was developed to help you slim down, tone-up and fine-tune. The Lean Protein can be added to water/milk to create a shake or added with fruit to your favourite smoothie. It’s best enjoyed as a nutritious drink, as a post-workout shake to replenish your energy levels or even as a pre-workout booster.
One of the main ingredients in The Lean Protein is Whey Protein. Whey Protein has been shown to preserve and develop lean muscle. It’s also been shown to keep you feeling fuller for longer, so replacing your afternoon snack with a whey protein shake (or better still, a Innermost superfood whey protein shake) could help you lose weight.
A common misconception, especially amongst women, is the fear of growing huge muscles just by consuming protein. In reality, what whey protein along with exercise will do is help increase lean muscle mass, which means your body will burn more fat while building lean muscle, helping you become more toned. We call that a win-win.
Another great fat fighting ingredient found in The Lean Protein is inulin. Inulin is a complex of sugar present in the roots of various plants which is linked to lower levels of visceral fat (that’s the bad kind). It also contains Acetyl L-Carnitine which is involved in metabolism and fat burning for fuel as well as Yerba Mate which is a South American tea used to boost your metabolism and aid weight loss. Overall if you’re looking for healthy and sustainable weight loss whilst also preserving and developing lean muscle, then The Lean Protein is the blend for you.
The Detox Booster is our vegan super-green powder/tea. It was designed to support overall well-being, vitality and immunity whilst naturally detoxing and cleansing the body. It is best enjoyed added to water to create a tea, added to milk to make a latte or used as a powder to add a superfood punch to your smoothie/juice.
The Detox Booster is made up of a selection of nature’s most powerful superfoods. It has maca to improve vigour, mood and libido. Matcha Green Tea to boost your metabolism and energy levels. Turmeric which acts as an anti-inflammatory and immune booster as well as Camu Camu, spirulina, Chorella and wheatgrass which are all a great source of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. It also contains kelp, which is a great natural detoxer.
Overall, The Detox Booster is our all-in-one blend of the best nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that your body needs to support a healthy well-being and immunity.
The Fit Protein is one of our whey super food protein blends. It’s perfect for when you want to feel energised and replenished whilst building lean muscle.
The Fit Protein can be added to water/milk to create a shake or even added with fruit to your favourite smoothie. It’s best enjoyed as a nutritious drink, as a post-workout shake to replenish your energy levels or even as a pre-workout booster.
One of the main ingredients in The Fit Protein is Whey Protein. Whey Protein is used to preserve and develop lean muscle. See, muscle fibers are broken down and rebuilt as part of everyday functioning. However, working out causes the rate of this breakdown to increase exponentially (this is why you feel sore the day after working out) and more protein is needed to repair and rebuild the damaged muscle fibers. Whey protein is an incredibly good way to get that protein into your body to support the recovery process and help with your performance.
The Fit Protein also contains many other ingredients aimed at supporting performance, rehydration, recovery and the restoration of electrolytes. It has Cocomineral and Pink Himalayan Salt for rehydration, Maca and Rhodiola Root, for restoring and increasing energy levels as well as magnesium for energy balance and muscle concentration.
Overall, The Fit Protein is the perfect blend of protein, nutrients, minerals and vitamins to keep you going on and on and on.
The Energy Booster is our pre/intra-workout booster. It was designed to support vitality and endurance whilst maximising performance, enhancing energy and combating tiredness. Ideally, The Energy Booster should be drunk as a pre-workout drink or when you need an energy boost.
One of the stand-out ingredients in The Energy Booster is the BCAA (Branched Chain Amino Acids) Complex. When you workout your body needs energy and it can get this energy from sugar or by breaking down fat or muscle. To lose fat you need to train on low glycogen (low sugar) so your body is forced to break down fat for energy. But doing that can also result in muscle loss. This is where BCAAs come in. They encourage protein synthesis and maintain muscle mass when training on low glycogen stores. So you effectively lose fat while maintaining or encouraging muscle development.
The Energy Booster also contains many other ingredients aimed to improve performance and energy production. It has caffeine for alertness, performance and fat oxidation, Beta Alanine for reducing the effects of fatigue as well as guarana, maca and vitamin D to improve performance and energy production. All in all, a great product to maximise performance, fitness and overall vitality.
The Health Protein is our vegan superfood protein blend. It was crafted to support overall well-being, vitality and immunity whilst also helping to preserve and develop lean muscle. The Health Protein can be added to water/milk to create a shake or even added with fruit to your favourite smoothie. It’s best enjoyed as a nutritious drink, as a post-workout shake to replenish your energy levels or even as a pre-workout booster.
The protein found in The Health Protein is a blend of Pea Protein and Brown Rice Protein. Pea Protein has loads of benefits including post-workout muscle recovery, assisting with weight-loss by keeping you fuller for longer and keeping you feeling and looking healthy. It has an amino acid profile similar to that of whey and high levels of branded chain amino acids (BCAA’s), which are the key building blocks for muscle, hair, skin and nails. Pea Protein does however miss a couple of nonessential (amino acids your body already produces) and essential amino acids (amino acids your body doesn’t produce). Hence, combining it with Brown Rice Protein enables it to give a complete amino acid profile thus maximising the protein effectiveness.
Coupled with the other super foods in this blend like the immune boosting Japanese mushrooms Shiitake, Maitake, Reishi and Cordyceps, the amino acid glutamine and the antioxidant rich bilberries and acai berries, this protein blend is the perfect nourishment to defend and support your body whilst helping to build lean muscle.
