American Football is a sport that inspires true passion among it's supporters. We'd heard great things about Friday Night Lights written by H.G. Bissinger so we decided to give it a read and report back.

The book is @sportsillustrated's best American football book of all time. Many people know “Friday Night Lights” first as a movie and/or as a critically acclaimed TV show. And while both of those share similarities with the book, the story may not be familiar to all.

The book is all about the 1988 Permian Panthers high school football team of Odessa, Texas. Socially and racially divided, Odessa isn't a place big on dreams. But every Friday night when the Panthers play, dreams can come true.

The book captures how single-minded devotion to the team shapes the community and inspires, and sometimes shatters, the teenagers who wear the Panthers' uniforms. Far more than a stereotypical sports book, it captures brilliantly the economic, political, racial, and sociological factors that cause Odessa to embrace football so enthusiastically. Well worth a read.
