born to run by innermost

Innermost Reads: Born To Run

We love running although we could probably pick up the pace. That’s why we’ve been reading Born To Run by Christopher McDougall who also does a great Ted Talk.

The book focuses on the Tarahumara, a mysterious tribe of Mexican Indians reputed to be the best distance runners in the world, who you might see on a 48-hour run after an all-night booze up. And rather than Nikes, they prefer sandals made from old tyres.

The author introduces and explores a powerful idea – that human beings are literally born to run. McDougall argues that running is at the heart of what it means to be human. In the course of elaborating, McDougall answers some big questions: Why did our ancestors outlive the stronger, smarter Neanderthals? Why do expensive running shoes increase the odds of injury?

The book also presents a philosophy of exercise. McDougall argues that the essence of running should not be grim determination, but sheer joy. Many of the conventions of modern running – the thick-soled shoes, mechanical treadmills and heads-down powering through pain dull our appreciation of what running can be – a sociable activity, more game than chore, that can lead to adventure.

For all you runners out there, take a closer look at The Fit One (Blend No.2) to help you strengthen and replenish after a tough sprint session. Also, The Fit Plus (Booster No.2) to give you the energy you need to push yourself harder. Both products come coveniently packaged in The Fit Collection.
