If you’ve stepped foot in the supermarket in the last few weeks (well, since after Christmas, if we’re being realistic), you’ll have noticed the colourful, towering array of Easter eggs, Easter gifting and related products that can’t be ignored. With the weather improving, evenings getting lighter and the temptation of these shining, foiled, chocolate eggs being higher than ever, you guessed it – Easter is just around the corner, and Spring is well and truly upon us.

So, with Easter weekend fast approaching, if you’re hosting a celebration, family gathering or just fancy getting involved with some Easter baking, you’re probably wondering what to make for Easter, and researching some delicious Easter recipes.

Easter is the sign of new beginnings and for many, a hugely important religious celebration. Marked by individuals all over the world in a range of ways, it’s one of the most important weekends of the year for many, so it’s important to be in-the-know about Easter, and it’s definitely time to get preparing! That’s where our favourite recipes for Easter baking will come in handy.

But first, what is Easter, and why do we celebrate it?

What is Easter?

Whilst for many, Easter is a long-awaited bank holiday weekend that enables them to get together with friends and family, enjoy Easter baking and treats and (hopefully) enjoy some lovely Spring-time weather.

The origins and importance of Easter for those of religious following are much greater, though. For Christians around the world, Easter is one of the most important religious holidays in the calendar, marking the time of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. For many, the holiday celebrates the importance and significance of life over death, and is a sign of new beginnings.

Whilst Easter means different things for many, and we should all be considerate of this, one thing is for sure – everyone will have their own traditions. For many, a common one is dining and baking, so here are some of our favourite recipes for Easter for those of you that need some inspiration.

Our favourite Easter recipes

The team at Innermost, like many, love a traditional Easter treat. Who doesn’t?

One of the best things with recipes, particularly Easter recipes, is that you can get creative, and both enjoy long-time favourites with new added twists, such as combining your favourite protein blend into your mix… hint hint.

It took a while for us to decide on our three favourites, but without further ado… here they are.

Gooey Easter brownies

Creme egg, anyone? Oh, go on then. These gooey Easter brownies take one of Easter's most characteristic sweet treats and add them to a good old fashioned brownie recipe. What could be better?

Here's what you're going to need for this perfect-for-Easter recipe:

  • 185g unsalted butter
  • 185g milk or dark chocolate
  • 85g plain flour
  • 40g cocoa powder (or The Fit Protein)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 275g golden caster sugar
  • 6-8 Creme eggs (the more the merrier, always)

To make these deliciously gooey creme egg brownies...

Melt the chocolate and butter together, and then sit this mixture separately. Next, in a separate bowl, break the eggs into the mix. Mix together, and then add the sugar, and mix together to create a thick, shake-like consistency.

Grab the chocolate mixture from the first step (but make sure its cooled, first) and add over the top of the mixture. Gently fold the two mixtures together.

Using a sieve, dust the mixture with your cocoa power (or chocolate protein blend). Once complete, again, fold the mixture.

Pour into a greased baking tin and place in the oven for fifteen to twenty minutes, until ready. Whilst these are cooking, cut the creme eggs in half, ready to add.

Remove the bake from the oven and place the creme eggs evenly throughout. Voila!

A mini egg chocolate protein shake

Everyone loves a mini egg, right?

Why not add a chocolate Easter twist to your daily protein shake? Whether your go to is our creamy vanilla or smooth chocolate blend, your shake this Easter weekend needs to include two things: The Fit Protein, and some delicious mini eggs.

Shake, shake shake! It’s that simple. Yum.

  1. The classic Easter biscuit

Traditionally baked at Easter time and given as gifts to the host of your lunch, gathering or celebration, Easter biscuits are a staple for many at this time of year. Luckily, they’re a little easier to make than the equally delicious Easter recipe for hot cross buns, so we included this on our list.

Here’s what you’ll need for this tasty Easter recipe, for around 20 Easter cookies:

  • 75g of butter (salted or unsalted)
  • 75g of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • A half a teaspoon of cinnamon spice
  • 50g of currants (optional, but delicious)
  • 175g of flour (make sure its plain!)
  • 3 tablespoons of milk

If you’re feeling fruity, many people add orange peel to their mixture. We recommend adding around 15g of peel to this Easter recipe mix, but of course, it’s up to you.

To bake this Easter biscuit recipe:

  • Preheat the oven to gas mark 4
  • Beat together the butter, sugar and egg yolk (and make sure to save the egg white for later)
  • Add in your spices, currants and any fruit peel
  • Mix all together and gradually combine the milk
  • Roll out the dough flat, and cut using a cookie or biscuit cutter of your choice
  • Using the egg white you saved earlier, lightly brush the biscuits
  • Sprinkle the cut biscuits with some sugar
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until pale to golden
